Our school

Franklin Learning Academy is a tuition-free public charter school in downtown Columbus, Ohio, serving learners from toddlers through 2nd grade. The school operates as a combined early learning academy and charter school, which means a child can start in the early learning program as a toddler and graduate into the tuition-free charter school for Kindergarten through 2nd grade without ever changing buildings or communities. Principal Dionna Burton leads a campus designed around one idea: the earliest years matter most.

The academic program is hands-on and developmentally sequenced. Each age and stage experiences a curriculum built to match how young children actually learn: through movement, play, sensory engagement, and guided discovery. The early learning track nurtures curiosity and foundational skills. The charter school track builds reading, math, and writing fluency on that foundation.

The school uses a points-based behavior system that promotes positive choices and regular attendance. Students take part in age-appropriate outings, including walking trips to the local fire department, that connect learning to the real world outside the building.

The campus includes a cafeteria with stage, a gym, a library, and an outdoor play area.

Counseling and behavioral health support are provided through the National Youth Advocacy Program (NYAP). The school donates leftover food to families after school. Every enrolled student receives free breakfast and lunch.
